Albin Ouschan faced an upset exit, while Ruiz, Van Boening, and Filler advanced to the Last 64 of the World Pool Championship at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal City Sports Hall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 3-8 June.
In partnership with the Saudi Arabian Billiard & Snooker Federation (SABSF) and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport, the crown jewel of the World Nineball Tour will be available through leading global broadcasters, including Sky Sports, SSC, Shahid VIP Sports, MENA, and DAZN.
The two-time World Pool Champion Albin Ouschan was knocked out by the World Cup of Pool champion Johann Chua, who defeated the Austrian 9-3 in devastating fashion.
Joining Ouschan in his exit were Scottish Open champion Duong Quoc Hoang, UK Open champion and Team USA Mosconi Cup captain Skyler Woodward, and the tournament’s solo female player Pia Filler.
Francisco Sanchez Ruiz continued his title defence, defeating the Filipino Kyle Amoroto 9-4 in the afternoon sessions. Sharing the same success as the Spanish champion, former World Pool Champions Shane Van Boening and Joshua Filler also entered the Last 64. Van Boening defeated Francesco Candela 9-3, while Filler defeated Hsieh Chia Chen 9-3, with Filler executing a golden break to stop the Chinese Taipei star.
All three Ko brothers breezed through to the Last 64 in the afternoon sessions with impressive back-to-back wins. Ko Ping Chung delivered a standout performance against the Englishman Darren Appleton, completing a 9-0 whitewash with a golden break in the final rack.
Tomorrow, the race-to-11 format commences, with the Last 64 stage taking place in the afternoon sessions, followed by the Last 32 in the evening. Francisco Sanchez Ruiz vs Mickey Krause kicks off at 1 pm KSA / 11 am BST, available on Sky Sports, SSC, Shahid VIP Sports, MENA, and DAZN.
